USPS wants to give Saturday deliveries the “heave-ho!”

Saturday mail deliveries may be a thing of the past! Check out this article from the Los Angeles Daily News.
As for me, considering at least half the mail that is delivered to our mailbox is junk mail, I sure wouldn’t miss Saturday deliveries. However, this could still be a pretty big deal, depending on how you look at it. Here’s what I’m thinking.
As for me, who lives in a regular household, I wouldn’t think that this would affect too many people in a negative way. But hey, I’m human, I could be wrong!
As for me, a person who works in retail, and deals with receiving packages and mail every business day, this could have a big impact. Obviously, this wouldn’t be a change to UPS or FedEx’s shipping schedules, but if paychecks cannot be sent to employees on Saturday, and can only be mailed the next Monday, this could certainly make those folks upset! Also, if distributors cannot send invoices to retail stores on Saturdays, well, I think you get the point.
With growing email, Facebook and other forms on e-messaging, it’s no wonder a post office could lose tons of money. We’ve already dealt with a stamp price increase, and I don’t really blame the USPS for wanting to give up the Saturday deliveries. If it could save them money, well, now is a good time to save up! Apparently, the USPS is projecting that they will lose BILLIONS of dollars soon. I’d sure hate to see postal mail go away anytime soon…

Oh man, our mail is so late on Monday already because of one day off think how bad it will get with three days of mail in one.
But I think your scenario of not being able to mail on weekends is wrong, the post offices work 24/7. I’ve dropped off a Netflix DVD on sunday and it gets it back to them on Monday. And don’t whine about having to go find a post office there are more of them in the US than McDonalds.

Well with three days of mail in one, you sure would get lots of mail on Monday! You’ve got a good point there. And in regards to saturday deliveries, it’s not like they’re going to seal off the mail drop boxes to everyone! Of course you could still send mail (or Netflix DVD’s) on saturday. But I don’t think major companies like Netflix will be affected too much by this change, since they’re commercial, not residential.
I sure don’t have to worry about finding a post office close to me. I’m willing to drive almost anywhere to mail a letter, if it’s important. Besides, I drive around the valley quite a bit, odds are there is at least ONE post office along my way.
When I look at this whole situation, it looks like some kind of change is inevitable. But that’s just from my point of view.
