Perhaps I should just rename my blog to “The Un-Official Blog of the Random Guy Who Hates Highway 16” or something like that. But if you didn’t hear, there was yet another car accident on Highway 16, this time at Beacon Light Road.

iPad… the nitty gritty.
Author: ChowderFeb 1
So, besides a personal anti-Apple grudge I’ve always had, I now have a slew of different reasons why I won’t be buying the iPad anytime soon.
Before I get to the nitty-gritty, I can honestly say a few good things about the iPad. With book readers available from the iBook store, this could be a life-saver for college students who don’t want to lug around heavy textbooks. I could very easily see plenty of college students using this as a replacement for college textbooks.
The price for the iPad (minus AT&T’s crappy 3G coverage) isn’t actually that bad when you look at it from the outside. But, when you hear of all the things it can’t do, I understand the low price. More after the jump.
Local Boise State Games in HD: Will it ever happen?
Author: ChowderJan 26
C’mon, can any station here in Boise start cranking out local newscasts in high definition?? In most other media markets, usually 2 or 3 local stations pipe out local news in at least 720p. But in Boise, the closest thing we have to HD local news is KTVB’s widescreen news. Is it HD? Nope. But does it look better on my HDTV than any other newscast? Absolutely. Between KTVB’s familiar faces, great graphics/logo package, popular website, and the fact they were the first to take the widescreen step, I’d love to see channel 7 start presenting local news in high definition. That’s also why I’d venture to guess that KTVB would indeed be the first station here to take that expensive HD step. But that’s not the only reason I’d like to see more local programming in high-def. Let’s not forget the Broncos.
Idaho Statesman covers “Boncos Foootball”
Author: ChowderJan 18
And people may wonder, why do I, Chowder, dislike hate the Idaho Statesman? Here’s one reason…
It’s apparent they either have a lack of spell check, or their review team is in sleep mode:
The Idaho Statesman: Idaho’s #1 Source for BONCO FOOOTBALL News!
But that’s not the only reason I hate the Statesman… perhaps I’ll rant about that later.
Leno v. Conan (and the fools at NBC)
Author: ChowderJan 16
I’ve always been a fan of both Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien… I’d watch the Tonight Show with Jay after the local news, I enjoyed his monologue and the special pieces (headlines, jaywalking, etc). Conan was just a very funny, energetic and perky guy who never ceased to make me laugh. Now, I’m forced to make a choice:
Team CoCo or Team Leno?
You know…
Author: ChowderJan 10
I’ve never laughed so hard in a LONG time until tonight… hehe, I just found out one of my best friends kicked a midget on accident during school. And that same friend got hit in the face with a bouncy ball that was thrown from behind her, and bounced off the wall in front of her.
Also, Los Betos is good. The California burrito is to DIE FOR!!! They have a few locations across the area, one in Garden City by Reel Theaters Northgate, one by the freeway on Eagle Road, and one by the Idaho Center near Sonic. Open 24 hours. Good stuff.
More crap coming soon… and here’s a goat that screams like a man.
AT&T vs. Verizon…
Author: ChowderJan 7
Dear AT&T,
I’m sorry that the truth hurts.
*sheds imaginary tear*
If you haven’t heard, AT&T is suing Verizon Wireless over it’s “there’s a map for that” campaign, which is a clever parody of AT&T/iPhone’s “there’s an app for that” commercials. You can just flip on the television and see Verizon and AT&T blasting each other in a good amount of different commercials. Watching the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl on ABC and FOX respectively, I’ve seen tons of them! As a regular human being (not a paid PR person or Verizon / AT&T employee) I need to break the truth about it all.
Happy New Year! Now, for some clarification…
Author: ChowderJan 1
First off, Happy New Year from Chowder! Now we can put the mistakes we made in the past year (*cough* supporting Obama *cough*) behind us and focus on the new year: 2010. But, let’s set the record straight…
HOW TO PRONOUNCE 2010:
“Twenty-Ten”
“Two-thousand and Ten”
“Two-thousand-Ten”
“Twenty and Ten”
“Two-Zero-One-Zero”
Folks, we’re in a new decade, please move forward. It’s pronounced “Twenty-Ten.” Get used to it, people. No more of this “two-thousand-x” business here.
… It’s way too formal. It’d be like calling Picasso by his full name. We don’t even use the “Pablo” anymore, because when you say “Picasso”, no one assumes you’re talking about Frank Picasso.
- Mountain Time, one of my favorite webcomics
Annnndddd… coming soon to ChowderBlog:
- Comparison of Social Network Client Apps (for twitter, the ‘book, etc.)
- Movie review… you’ll just have to wait and see which one it is
- Comedy show review: Bob and Tom Comedy All-Stars Tour
Happy New Year, gang! Hope that TWENTY-TEN treats us all well!

First off, I want to thank Cody (bandrox admin) for fixing an issue between Windows Live Writer and this WordPress blog. Pictures should be working for good now.

So, where did I leave off? Oh yes, a drunk midget! Well, maybe. So the story begins as Cody and I were driving back to Eagle High School in his car. We were stopped at the light at State Street and Saxton Drive (in front of the Garden City Wal-Mart) behind a big GMC Sierra truck, similar to the one pictured. As the light turned green, this large truck began accelerating… at an insanely low pace. We didn’t know what was going on, by the time we drove about 200 feet away from the light the truck was only going about 15 MPH. What the beef? AND THEN, the truck begins swerving all over the road, and nearly drives off the shoulder into a small ditch. Cody decided to change into the other lane (for obvious reasons) to drive around the truck. As we were right next to this large truck (remember, we’re in a small Honda Civic), the truck decides to change lanes also, forcing us into the center turn lane. At this point, I pulled out my phone and called 911. I told dispatch what was going on, we got a license plate number of the truck and told them exactly where we were. As we were right alongside this truck again, we notice their headlights weren’t on. The parking lights were on, but no headlights. I rolled down the window to see inside the truck, and was speechless when I saw who was in the truck.
It was a midget. A drunk midget. OR it may have been a child. I told dispatch that I thought it was either a midget or a kid driving this truck. Cody decided to get the heck out of there, so we lost the truck quickly. We saw it turn onto Duncan Lane, and I told dispatch that’s where he turned. They asked for my phone number if they needed to call me back, and they dispatched police to the area, and our call ended.
Cody decided to go back to the Duncan Lane / Hill Road Parkway area to see if we could find the guy again, but we didn’t see any sign of the truck (or cops either…). We knew something would probably happen anyways considering we gave them a great description of the truck, AND a license plate number.
So if you ever drive the area of State Street between Horseshoe Bend Road and Glenwood Street, watch out for drunk midgets (or small children) driving big GMC trucks!!
And this concludes our DIII marching festival festivities.

So the band has made their way to the BSU amphitheater to warm up:
(photo stolen from Cody Conder)
I wasn’t there to watch them warm up (I was at the buses helping with pit equipment) but Cody told me they had a great warm up. During this time I learned news that was NOT pleasing to my ear: during our trip back to the school, Cody and I missed the BBQ sammiches!!
So after a warm up session, the band came back to the entrance gate to Bronco Stadium. We then proceeded onto the field. Showtime.
