Immigration reform is all over the news nowadays, since Arizona passed the new law that will crack down on illegal immigration. Seems that a lot of people are uber upset over this, so much so that a rally was held on Saturday here in Boise in opposition of this new law.
A lot of people that are opposed to this are laying out the excuse that immigration should be controlled on the federal level. Hmm, I wonder why? Oh! Perhaps it’s because the almighty President Obama will give them exactly what they want: amnesty. They know they probably won’t get that on the state level, especially in red states.
And what about racial profiling? People are saying this is absolute racism, because the questioning just might be based on skin color. So tell me, if we can’t use visual cues to determine if someone might be illegal, what do we use?? Accents? Facial hair? Or does the Arizona Highway Patrol question EVERY SINGLE PERSON they come in contact with? Tell me, opponents, how are we supposed to identify possible illegals using the “politically correct” way? Seriously, I’d like to hear ideas. I can’t think of any off the top of my head. That’s what the comments section is for.
Now, say you’re hispanic, and here in the country as a legal immigrant. If you get pulled over because the police want to check your citizenship, and you’re here legally, what do you have to worry about? The illegal immigrants are the ones that will worry, and rightfully so. Why? Uhhm, maybe it’s because they are in this country illegally.
So here’s the bottom line: there are legal ways of entering this country. Use them, and you don’t have to worry about jack crap. Nuff said.
Perhaps I should just rename my blog to “The Un-Official Blog of the Random Guy Who Hates Highway 16” or something like that. But if you didn’t hear, there was yet another car accident on Highway 16, this time at Beacon Light Road.
Just days after I posted an article about local news going into HD, KBCI 2 News went back to it’s roots and changed up a few things. As of Monday, Their new call letters are KBOI, similar to what they were when the station was in it’s early days. They, once again, share the call letters with 670 AM KBOI. And with all this new change, they too (like KTVB) are broadcasting local news in a widescreen format!
So what’s new? From what I can tell…
Digital widescreen (16:9) local news
Revamped (and better looking, IMHO) website
New call letters (KBCI –> KBOI)
New graphics, banners and logos
KBC… er, excuse me, KBOI seems to use the same embeddable video player as KTVB.com uses too. So with that being said, here’s the video about the new changes directly from KBOI’s website itself (ironically, it ISN’T presented in widescreen):
Perhaps I’m a gypsy? It seems that whenever I blog about something, it gets closer to happening. This is awesome! Behold the power of blogging.
This was shown on Boise State Fiesta Bowl 2010’s Facebook page, a story of Eastern Washington University’s plans to make red artificial turf a reality in their football stadium. It’s hoped that this will be completely funded and completed in time for the 2010 football season. EWU’s athletic director even mentioned Boise State and their blue field in this article:
"There is no doubt that one of Boise State’s claim to fame has been their blue turf and like it or dislike it, it has certainly brought them a tremendous amount of notoriety," said Chaves. "In a similar vein we have a tremendous opportunity at Eastern to do the same by differentiating ourselves with the red turf while providing a superior playing surface."
Eastern Washington University Athletic Director Bill Chaves
C’mon, can any station here in Boise start cranking out local newscasts in high definition?? In most other media markets, usually 2 or 3 local stations pipe out local news in at least 720p. But in Boise, the closest thing we have to HD local news is KTVB’s widescreen news. Is it HD? Nope. But does it look better on my HDTV than any other newscast? Absolutely. Between KTVB’s familiar faces, great graphics/logo package, popular website, and the fact they were the first to take the widescreen step, I’d love to see channel 7 start presenting local news in high definition. That’s also why I’d venture to guess that KTVB would indeed be the first station here to take that expensive HD step. But that’s not the only reason I’d like to see more local programming in high-def. Let’s not forget the Broncos.
It seems a slew of businesses here in the Boise area are shutting their doors… which obviously leads to more unemployment. My goodness, why can’t we get our crap together! Is this the change we’ve all been waiting for?! Holy crap.
The folks here at ChowderBlog (which I guess is just one person, me…) are cheering on the 13-0 Boise State Broncos in the 2010 Tostito’s Fiesta Bowl! Go squish some horny toads!
I’m personally very pleased with the local coverage of the game. I’m also glad that at least channel 7/KTVB is covering the Blue Thunder Marching Band, which other stations like ESPN sometimes seem to look over (for shame!).
The game is being held tomorrow, January 4, at the awesome University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. It will be televised nationally on FOX. The pre-game will be at 5:30 PM and the game will start around 6PM, mountain time.
The #6 Boise State Broncos have earned their spot in the BCS for the second time in three years. Remember that first BCS bowl, that one Fiesta Bowl, where BSU beat out Oklahoma in an overtime thriller?
Well, Bronco Nation, pack your bags and grab your Tostitos chips and that taco hat you got at the last Fiesta Bowl, because we’re headin’ back to Glendale!
#6 BSU will take on TCU (#4 BCS, #3 AP) in the 2010 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. But this game already has people talking within the few hours it was announced…
